Isobel made her way down the staircase, grateful for the light that Laurel had provided. It would have been very dark otherwise. When they had reached the bottom of the stairway they found themselves in a short hallway, and beyond that a cavern.

Isobel had her sword out and slowly circled the outer perimeter of the room, but there did not seem to be anything else in here, so she turned her attention to Laurel, who was looking into the small pool of water in the center of the room. She frowned as Laurel gasped and stepped back.

“It does not show my reflection,” Laurel said. “I don’t like this place." Isobel looked at her sharply. She had never seen Laurel so unnerved before. Not that the druidess was screaming and running or anything of that sort... but she seemed shaken, slightly.

Isobel approached the pool and looked down at it. "I do not see anything either. It does not even reflect the magelight..."

At that moment Jade reached down and touched the surface of the pool. "No you fool!" Isobel snapped, but it was too late.

*~*~*~*~*~*

Jade's pulse quickened as they made their way down the stairway. She was glad that Laurel had provided the light. It meant that she didn't have to reveal her abilities just yet. She examined the walls carefully on the way down, searching for any hint of secret doors or sompartments. She was only slightly disappointed to find none -- that she could tell anyway. She didn't want to use any revealing spells right now.

She drew a black dagger from her belt and followed Isobel into the cavern. As Isobel began to examine the perimeter on one side, Jade moved to the other and stopped before one of the pillars. Her fingertips trailed over a series of indistinct runes that were unfamiliar to her. She was about to ask the others if they recognized them when Laurel commented on the pool in the center of the room.

"It does not show my reflection," the druidess said.

This intrigued Jade, who immediately approached the pool and looked into its still depths. She knelt down beside the pool and reached out a hand, touching the surface. "No you fool!" Isobel hissed.

Jade looked up. "It doesn't feel very wet," she said.

At that moment the surface began to ripple and the water itself seemed to rise up, extruding a long pillar of water which formed into a semi-human shape. A rudimentary face formed on the head and it seemed to be regarding the women.
Jade stood up and stepped back, grinning up at the creature.

"Well hello tall, transparent, and watery," she said.

The creature paid no heed to her words but spoke in a voice that was deep yet sounded watery. "The requirements are met. Life has returned. You must choose: I will ask. You will answer. If you answer true, the treasure is yours. If you answer false, one must pay the price. If you choose not to answer, you must leave and never return. Choose."

"I'm all for giving it a go, how about you gals?" Jade said, turning to the others with a grin, excitement written on her face.

Isobel nodded slowly. "I am also in favor of trying the question. Laurel? Tia?"
