Author: Marz
Subject: I'm hungry

Marz frowned a number of times while listening to the genie. It must suck to be you, he thought. Why would anyone want to waste time and energy trying to make everyone else happy? That sounded like a pretty stupid concept to Marz.

After a while, he coaxed Saras to sit down on the floor with him. Marz scooted close, draping an arm around the genie's shoulders as he stared into her eyes. "Did Ravin actually say he didn't want you because you're a horrible genie?" When Saras shook her head from side to side, Marz stopped himself from rolling his eyes. "See, you're just presuming this shit." He tried to keep his voice soft as he spoke. "Maybe Ravin just wants you to go off and have fun instead of hanging on him like some raking slave who's only waiting for him to make his next wish."

"But that's what I'm supposed to do," Saras said again. "Grant wishes and make people happy."

Much to the genie's horror, Marz burst out laughing. "Didn't they teach you at genie school that it's impossible to make people happy? I mean, people can be happy, but it never lasts for long. Humans thrive on worry, aggravation, and anger. Hell, if we could be happy ALL the time there'd be nothing to look forward to. The bad times make us appreciate the good times a lot more, if that makes any sense."

He kissed Saras on her pretty petite nose then grinned. "So get over this need to make everybody happy shit because it ain't never gonna happen. You'll only end up pouting and crying at the time, thinking you've failed. That will make people hate you after a while since nobody wants to put up with a constant crybaby. Dealing with a whiner gets boring and quite tiresome real quick."

Marz tightened his grip around the genie's shoulders as he stared off into space. Sure, he was being blunt, but he wasn't the type to sugar coat things very often. "Look, if the only thing you live for is to grant wishes, I'll tell Ravin to make his remaining two right away. Then you can crawl back into your lamp or whatever and not have to worry about trying to make anyone happy for another hundred years or so." His head snapped up at the sound of footsteps. When he saw Tristan approaching, he whispered into Saras' ear. "Think about what I said and let me know if you want me to talk to Ravin about those wishes."

Marz turned to face his lover when he knelt down before them to stammer out what sounded like it might be an apology to Saras. "You have to stop getting so pissed at that freaky kid, Tris," he said, before the genie had a chance to respond. "He's not going to steal me away from you no matter how hard he tries. I might have been tempted by Jeremy once, but I don't raking love him and never will!"

A hint of aggravation could be heard in his voice. He wasn't about to apologize for the lustful feelings others sometimes invoked in him at times, especially when he wasn't fully acing upon that lust! "I've never gone all the way with anyone else since we got together, Tris," he said, pulling his arm away from Saras and getting to his feet. "Sometimes you're really cold when I need you to be warm, but I'm trying my best to learn to live with that and not go off to seek that warmth elsewhere." He stared down into his lover's eyes for a moment then threw his hands into the air and shook his head. "You two can sit here and talk your fool heads off if you want, but I'm going back to eat my dinner because I'm raking hungry!"

Marz turned his back to the dragon and the genie and walked away with his usual swagger. He was hungry, and intended to finish his meal before the next crisis erupted! Once inside the kitchen, he nodded to Ravin and Erlic then reclaimed his seat. Thankfully, no one had thought to clean his plate away yet. As he gulped down some ham and bread, he glanced at Erlic, wondering at the intensely somber look on his face.
