It took several minutes for Marz to recuperate from the shock of feeling Tristan's hand sliding along his thigh. Khallryn had a habit of teasing him like that all the time, and suddenly he realized he missed all the attention she used to shower on him. Of course, he never loved her the way he now loved Tristan, but they had made some memorable memories together, especially in the bedroom.

He pulled his thoughts away from the beautiful mother of his children to focus on Jeremy and Saras when they joined them at the table. The genie was absolutely gorgeous even though she was a little too flat-chested for his taste. At least Jeremy had a girlfriend now, which was more than he could say for Corum. His attachment to skulls and little animals was becoming unhealthy, but Marz decided that would change once they fixed him up with Tia. Rowan wasn't the right kind of man for that pretty, little thief! Marz was determined to make her see that then she could turn her attention to Corum instead.

When Jeremy asked about the latest gossip, Marz grinned. He knew that the otherworldly youth was close to Rowan and that gave him an idea. If they told Jeremy that they learned that Tia was attracted to Corum and hated Rowan's peskiness, the kid would probably pass that information on to the white-haired elf. Hopefully, he would then leave Tia alone, and open the way for Corum to move in on her easily! But, as Marz opened his mouth to speak, Tristan cut him off.

"Nothing that's any of your business," the dragon snapped, while glaring at Jeremy. He went on to preach about annoying people and how dangerous it was to mess with the wrong kind of person.

Marz gave his lover an incredulous look. What the hell had Jeremy done to piss him off like that? Was asking about the latest gossip something to get all bent out of shape about? His eyes shifted to Saras when she interjected that she didn't think it was wrong for Jeremy to seek love. Love? Who the hell mentioned anything about love? He looked at Corum and shrugged. Obviously, he had missed something in this conversation. Why in bloody hades did Saras start crying all of a sudden? Marz hated seeing girls cry. Immediately, he got the urge to comfort her. Once again, Tristan threw him off guard by lashing out at the genie this time.

"You think," he said, pointing at Jeremy, "that ugly little thing you can't seem to pry your fingers off of actually has a right to steal something that rightfully belongs to me?"

Okay, Marz was really confused now. Jeremy stole something from Tristan? Well, the dragon had every right to be pissed off then!

"You will wisely refrain from giving me your pointless, meaningless, worthless little opinions concerning your ugly friend and my Marz."

The ex-gang leader blinked. They were talking about him? "But Jeremy didn't steal me away from you, Tris," he muttered. Apparently, the dragon didn't hear him because he lunged out of his chair and grabbed Jeremy. What was that about? The kid didn't do anything wrong. He merely asked about the latest gossip before holy hell broke loose! Marz was about to point that out to his enraged lover but Saras' mumbled words drew his attention. It looked like an ocean of tears were about to fall from the genie's eyes. Don't start crying, he wanted to say, but Saras ran from the room before he could get the words out. "SHIT!" Marz shouted. "Dinner is ruined because of you two!" Angrily, he glanced from Tristan to Jeremy then flung his napkin on the table before running off after Saras.

Thankfully, the genie didn’t run very fast, making it easy for Marz to catch up to her. By the time he finally reached Saras he was panting a little and had to take a couple of deep breaths before speaking. "Here's your sandal," he said, handing her the shoe he had picked up in one of the halls.

When he saw the tears streaming down the genie's face, he pulled her into his arms and held her close. "Please, don’t cry," he whispered, stroking the back of her neck as he spoke. "I'm not sure why things went crazy in the kitchen, but I don’t think any of it was your fault." After a moment, Marz loosened his hold a little and gently wiped away the tears from her pretty, pink cheeks with the back of his hand. "Tell me why you're so upset. Maybe I can do something to make things better and get you to smile again. You got a really cute smile, and I'd really like to see you use it a lot more."

Jeremy glared at the dragon after he released his hands. If he knew he had a chance of beating Tristan in a fight he would have punched him in the mouth. But, Jeremy wasn't stupid. The dragon almost broke the bones in his fingers, proving to him just how damn strong he was.

Raking bully! he mentally screamed while blinking back tears that threatened to come to his eyes. Since he feared getting killed by Tristan if he said anything right now, he kept his mouth shut and fumed in silence. After glancing at Corum, Barry, and Argus, he grabbed his pack and stomped out of the kitchen. Briefly he wondered where Marz and Saras had disappeared to.

Jeremy made his way into one of the rooms across from the kitchen. Four single beds with a trunk at the foot of each were lined up at one wall. A small table with two chairs, and a liquor cart stood at another end of the room. He sat down on one of the beds and tore into his pack. A few minutes later he swallowed a pill that would eliminate the pain in his hands and put him into a better mood. He lit one of his special cigarettes then got up to retrieve a bottle of wine from the cart.

"Someday, I'm going to get back at you for this, Tristan," he muttered, as he reclaimed his seat on the bed. Jeremy rested his back against the headboard, rotating between sips of wine and drags from the cigarette. When a vision of his uncle Paul came to his mind, he pushed it away before he could plunge into depression over not being able to return home. He hated this world and the lack of friends he had here, but at least he'd find some comfort in the liquor and drugs that were readily available!
