While rage consumed the guildmaster and his student, Ravin was filled with self-hatred. He blamed himself for the tavern attack because HE was the one that made the secret entrance into the cellar known to the proprietors. Once Nicklar was made aware of it, the tunnel was used as an alternate escape route for the women and children in times of emergency. And such dire times only came to the tavern when Tegol decided to launch an attack on it. Since the walls of the tavern were protected against fire, his archers couldn't destroy it with their flaming arrows and the fireball spells of his mages had no effect. Rushing in through the front door to attack the patrons of the place did no good, because the tunnel was then used for people to hurry out and sneak up behind their attackers. Obviously, this time no one could get to the cellar because mercenaries blocked it!

Why couldn't he remember sooner that Eremis knew about the tunnels? If only he would have gotten word to Dalo earlier, the bloodbath could have been prevented. He should have worked in conjunction with Chang, Nicklar, and the regulars of the place to erect more traps in the tunnel that led to the cellar. The single poisoned needle he set on the entrance to the oak tree did no good at stopping the mercenaries!

Consumed with whys, what ifs, and I should have dones, Ravin buried his face into his hands and cursed himself for being such a damned fool. Because he didn't think things out fully, an innocent child had been murdered along with other patrons of the tavern. Overcome with grief, he let the tears fall freely, and knew he could never forgive himself for what happened.
