The intense outpouring of rage had drained Marz so badly, he wasn't fully aware of what was going on around him at the moment. When he finally realized that he was sobbing like an emotional idiot, he forced the tears to stop. Tristan often told him that it was all right to cry, but he still had a hard time letting go of the brainwashing he was subjected to as a child. Sistino would condemn him for a single tear then punish him severely for it. Soon, it became easier to lock his emotions up deep down inside of himself. For years, he was nothing more than a mindless slab of stone, unable to feel anything; including the painful beatings his stepfather handed out on a daily basis.

After finally running away from the sadistic maniac, Marz found himself feeling only anger and hatred for a long time. Other emotions remained buried until the awful plight of helpless children in Bizmar ignited a spark of concern within him. Suddenly, he became their advocate, using his rage to fight for them in the way he couldn't fight for himself when he was a little boy.

Adults became the enemy because they constantly picked on innocent children who didn't know how to defend themselves. After a while the street urchins flocked to him, slowly warming the block of ice that had become his heart. The children became his salvation, preventing him from turning into a completely evil bastard like Tegol, or La Crot, who forced youngsters into prostitution in order to survive. One day Marz would shut down La Crot's operation and find a decent place to live for the children under his care. He would also eliminate Tegol Denair, and any other asshole who so much as thought about abusing a child!

"I'm so sorry," a gentle voice said.

Although Marz had been staring at Tristan all this time, he wasn't really aware of his presence until now. He glanced around, wondering how the hell he came to be in a bed with his lover sitting beside him. "I must have mentally blanked out for a minute," he said lowly.

While drawing in a deep breath, he tried to remember what happened after Erlic told him about Rooster's murder. Vague images of a wall exploring and fires erupting came to his mind before he recalled being attacked by goblins waving edged weapons in his face. Well, that explained why his body felt as it he had just gone through a meat grinder! Now, he felt pain from the many injuries he sustained, and embraced it like a long lost friend. At least he was alive, unlike Rooster and others that had been massacred in the tavern attack.

"Tegol Denair is going to die a very slow, agonizing death," he said through clenched teeth. "I'm going to pluck out his eyeballs then turn him into a eunuch before I peal the skin off his body a little at a time."

When Marz realized that his body was shaking with rage that was building again, he squeezed Tristan's hand while trying to calm down. He focused on a stabbing pain in his arm so he wouldn't have to think about the anguish in his heart that arose whenever an image of Rooster flashed across his mind. "I need to tell Erlic the location of Tegol's safe-houses that I've visited, and give him a list of the businesses he owns. That bastard had declared war on us and it's payback time."

Marz tried not to wince as he sat up and pulled Tristan into his arms. He hugged him close, the I love you slipping easily from his lips now. A month ago he would have laughed at the possibility of ever falling in love. Unaware of what he was doing, he somehow blended his essence with that of his lover. The blending filled him with renewed strength and quickly brought him to the state of euphoria they always reached when they made love. If Erlic saw them now he would see the colors of their auras entwined, with no separation to distinguish what belonged to whom.

Marz moaned softly, overcome by the sheer magnificence of feeling so complete. Theirs was a perfect union of mind, body, and soul. Lost in the intense rapture of the moment, Marz rocked them back and forth gently as wave upon wave of torrid, yet blissful ecstasy consumed their spirits. This must be the Nirvana that was often spoken about by the sages but rarely, if ever, attained.
