After Saras toppled into the water, Jeremy jumped down from Rowan's shoulders and watched Corum carry the genie to shore. It was pretty mean of them to get the genie involved in a water game when he didn't know how to swim. "I guess I should go and apologize to him," he said to Rowan before walking away.

When he reached the shore he saw Saras sitting with his face buried into his knees. The shaking of his body told him that he was crying. When Barry said something about the genie thinking he was ugly, the otherworldly youth understood the reason for his tears. He plopped down beside Saras and put his arm around his shoulders. "You're not ugly, you're just different."

Jeremy chewed his lower lip, trying to figure out how to explain things to the genie without getting him more upset. "People can't understand you because you go against the norm of society I guess. Humans are either male or female but not a mixture of both, Saras, or no gender at all. You're really, really, beautiful, but that beauty is wasted on us because we're too busy trying to decide what you are to notice it."

The otherworldly youth reached out for the genie's chin and lifted his face so that he could look him in the eye. "I like you for what you are, but most people are turned off by what they don't understand. I'm sorry about getting you tossed into the water. That was mean, and I hope you're not mad at me."

He released the genie's chin and tried to wipe away some of the tears that covered his face. "Do you want to go back to the campfire now? You can eat another one of those candy bars that you like so much and I can try to put your hair in those tiny braids I told you about earlier. What do you say?"
