"The dark mage tried to steal your magic and you almost died."

Dark mage? Marz had no idea what Tristan was talking about. The last thing he remembered was sitting before the campfire with the dragon massaging his temples. He dozed off soon afterwards, and began having nightmares about Sistino. When the hell had this so-called dark mage entered the picture?

"If you die, will you come visit me in my dreams?"

Through tired eyes, Marz stared into the face of his lover. I'm not dying. He laced his fingers through Tristan's, squeezing his hand lightly. Although death was a part of life, he really didn't want to think about it right now. What good would it do to think about how totally devastated he'd be if death robbed him of Tristan?

"You'll have to hurry, so you can stop me before……before I…….."

Marz ran the fingers of his free hand through Tristan's hair. "I'm here and I don't plan on leaving you any time soon so stop thinking about that shit." He wanted to ask more questions about the dark mage, but was too tired to formulate them in his mind. "We'll talk about what happened in the morning, Tris," he said, presuming that it must be the middle of the night right now. He pulled the dragon closer, and kissed his cheek before sleep took him once again.

*******

When Marz woke sometime later, his mind was clearer and he was starving. Weakness continued to plague him, yet it wasn't as severe as it was earlier. He smiled at his sleeping lover before sitting up. That was when he noticed how sticky his skin felt in places.

Light from the descending sun shone in through the open flap, allowing Marz to get a good look at the inside of the tent. The small enclosure resembled a disaster area! What the hell went on while he was out cold? He ran a hand through his hair, finding it filled with sand, and……..chocolate?

On hands and knees, Marz maneuvered his way around the junk spewed across the floor until he found his backpack. After retrieving a new set of clothes, a towel, and some soap, he got to his feet. He rubbed his eyes, finding it hard to believe how tired he still felt. It was as it something had sucked out all his energy. "The dark mage tried to steal your magic and you almost died." Tristan's words rang out in his mind as he left the tent.

His eyes took in the beautiful sunset and a number of centaurs rushing to build additional campfires. Once he was satisfied there weren't any threats present, Marz made his way to the pond, pausing before Jeremy and Saras, who slept beneath one of the many trees. Stifling a yawn, he continued on his way, stopping when he reached the edge of the water.

With uncustomary slowness, he pulled of his clothing then washed the garments before setting them out to dry. The temperature was cooler now that the sun was beginning to sink below the horizon. A light breeze made goose bumps pop out all over his boy after he entered the water. He gave himself a thorough scrubbing, taking great pains to make sure he got all the sticky stuff out of his hair.

A few minutes later he was dressed in clean clothes, strands of damp hair caressing his face as he walked back to the main camp. Feeling somewhat chilled, he sat before one of the fires, thanking a centaur when she handed him a mug of java. His weapons and boots were still in the tent with Tristan, but he was too lazy to retrieve them just yet.

Marz gulped down some java, hoping that it would invigorate him before it was time to leave for the ruins of Twilight. When his stomach growled loudly, he glanced around, wondering where Kazabet's pack of provisions were. Since he was too weary to go hunting for it, he helped himself to some of the cactus fruit another centaur set before him. Hopefully, Tristan and the rest of his companions would join him soon because he was already getting bored with having no one to talk to.
