Normally, when a person made a snide remark about his relationship with Tristan, Marz would bash in their face. But, he was very tired now, and that's what made him decide to let Argus keep his teeth and nose in tact. Next time the newly shaven man said something nasty about men kissing men, Marz would simply have to rip out his tongue. That would definitely eliminate any further comments from him. At least Argus would get to live, which was more that he could say about Justin. Marz was certain that he'd strangle the idiot merc one day.

He thanked Tristan for bringing his gear then tugged on his boots and strapped his weapons in place. The glow he saw on the faces of Ravin and Isobel told him they had recently engaged in lovemaking. That brought a grin to his face. It was about time the thief stopped dwelling over his ex-wife and got on with his life. Ravin was pretty damn lucky to have someone as sensual as Isobel interested in him.

Once Ravin and Isobel went off in search of the bag of provisions, Marz glanced at Tristan. "I still can't believe that some raking mage was able to rip my Chi away from me like that. In a way, I do feel violated……raped." He stared off into the distance for a moment then brought the java mug to his lips. "Why in hades am I cursed with this shit, Tris? I never asked for so much Chi, wild energy, or whatever the hell you want to call it. If I could give the shit away I would, cause I have no use for it!"

Marz shifted when a hunger pain shot across his stomach. It felt as if he hadn't eaten for a week. "Damn straight I'm gonna work on closing those chakra things if that's the only way to snuff out this energy swirling around me that every bastard mage seems to want!" The anger in his voice was evident. "The thing is…..I don't like what happened when we messed with that first chakra." Although Marz would never admit to being afraid of anything, his eyes betrayed the fear he felt when discussing the chakras.

He gulped down a piece of cactus fruit as his eyes fell upon the approaching figures of Jeremy and Saras. Not surprisingly, the otherworldly youth plopped down right beside him. The hero-worship thing the kid had for him was cute, but it could be rather annoying at times.

"You feeling better now after getting hit by that lightening bolt?" Jeremy asked.

"Lightening bolt?" Marz's eyebrows shot up as he glanced at Tristan. When the dragon gave him a quick shake of his head, Marz lowered his gaze and reached for another piece of fruit. Why didn't Jeremy know about the dark mage? "Yeah, I feel better," he finally answered. "And, I don't even remember any lightening bolt."

"Whoa!" Jeremy cried. "You probably missed all the other weird stuff that started happening around here too." The youth rushed on to tell Marz about the fierce winds, bursts of fire, toppling tress, and the two centaurs that exploded. "Everything stopped after Erlic cut the head off this one guy. He musta been a really powerful mage to have been able to cause all that destruction."

Marz blinked a few times then let his eyes pan around the oasis. A number of uprooted trees lay across the ground, and burn marks were evident in many areas. The horrible realization that he might have had something to do with the devastation hit him hard. Were mages able to rape the power from him then immediately direct it elsewhere? Marz didn't know shit about mages or magical energy, and Erlic never really explained anything like this to him before. Only recently, he learned that mages could draw power from him, but he presumed they somehow stored it inside themselves or something like that.

"Man, if Erlic wouldn't have killed that mage, we'll probably all be dead now!" Jeremy chirped.

Marz gulped down the bile that rose in his throat and met Tristan's eyes. "I don't understand this. Are we all in danger of getting killed because of me? Because of something I have no control over? Am I the one that blew those centaurs apart and caused all this?" A touch of panic sounded in the ex-gang leader's weary voice.

Jeremy frowned when he heard Marz's questions. How could he think that HE was to blame for what happened? Obviously, that lightening bolt strike had left him delusional.

*******

Ravin grinned after looking inside the bag of provisions he and Isobel had finally found. The variety of wrapped meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, and tempting deserts made his mouth water.

He plucked out an apple and took a bite before holding it to Isobel's lips. An erotic shiver coursed through him as he watched her nibble at the fruit. Not too long ago, she was nibbling at him like that. He shook his head to clear away the memories for now. If he kept thinking about their fantastic lovemaking, he wouldn't be able to function properly!

Ravin let her keep the apple and drew out another for himself, eating it as they made their way back to the campfire. Immediately, his empathy picked up a strong sense of unease coming from Marz. Perhaps he was suffering from some sort of after shock from the lightening strike. Hopefully, Val would be able to give the youth a concoction that would relief the intense stress he was feeling at the moment.

After Isobel sat, Ravin eased himself down beside her. "There's plenty of food in there," he said, handing the bag of provisions to Argus. "Help yourself then pass it around to the others." The thief refilled their mugs with java, smiling at Isobel as he handed her one.

"In a couple of hours we should be on our way to the ruins of Twilight," he told her. Suddenly, his eyes glazed over, and he found himself staring at a badly beaten Eremis, who was in the process of being molested by a middle-aged man. Swiftly, the scene shifted to Tegol Denair. A smirk played along the crimelord's mouth as he gave a group of mercenaries orders to launch a surprise attack on the Rovers that lived in the forest north of Bizmar city. Again, the scene changed to the klutzy youth, Jake. He sat upon a bed, holding a straight razor to his wrist. "This is all my fault," he cried, before slicing into his vein.

Beads of sweat broke out on the thief's face. He found Isobel staring at him when a concerned look on her face. Ravin wanted to say something but was too devastated by the visions he had to speak just yet. He didn't even realize how badly he was shaking at the moment.
