Argus smiled as Laurel seemed so excited by his clerical abilities. They really weren't as spectacular as they could have been had he been fully trained, but what he could do shouldn't be sneezed at, either.

"You are a healer. Can you speak to the earth, too?" She asked him, demonstrating what she meant by making a sandy little whirlwind. "And what is this hammer of the sun spell? I should like to try it, too, whatever it is!"

"Ay can't speak ter de earth de way yew tin, darl'n," he replied, clearly impressed with her druidic abilities. "Blessings from de gods, ay do. De 'ammer o' de sun is power from de gods forged into a weapon ay tin use ter smite doze oo would lift der swords against us." His voice seemed to resonate with pious intensity as he spoke. Then he said more softly, almost gently, "Ay dun think ay tin teach it ter yew, La'el. Yew're norra follower o' de sun temple."

He saw the crestfallen look on her face. For some reason he wanted very badly to wipe that look away, replace it with a happy one. Why should that matter? He didn't know. But it did. "Dough yew be'n a druid and all," he said hurriedly, "Maybe yew would be able ter learn it afti all. Tin yew use fire magic?"

But the infernal centaurs picked that moment announce that they would be leaving now. Damn their timing! He settled for walking as near Laurel as he could, stealing glances at her while trying to keep an eye on the terrain around them. He knew there were probably assassins lurking everywhere now. And the half-naked woman with Ravin kept distracting him, too.

Finally they reached the ruins, but it was so dark he could barely see anything. Thrusting his arms above his head he intoned a prayer for light, and a small but bright ball of white light appeared, hovering above his head and casting its glow around the area. He shook his head at the sight of the ruined city. It was such a pity. No doubt this had once been a lively place with merchants and entertainers... women in skimpy outfits conducting scandalous dances for the coins people would throw at them... Argus' mind wandered and he snapped back to reality as he heard Tia's cries.

By the time he had rushed over to the wall Tia and Rowan were gone and Saras was sinking against the wall, apparently fast asleep. The wall opened up and he was ready to go in but shouting from nearby caught his attention.

He turned toward the sounds and saw two enormous, shaggy beasts bearing down on Tristan... but soon the fellow had dispatched the beasts handily, and evidently someone else had taken care of some bald fellows who had attacked. This was definitely a dangerous place.

Tristan suddenly shouted that Corum was missing just as that bone demon came barrelling toward them all yelling about the same thing.

"The Sharm must've got him!" Barry yowled. "I was stuck under one of those Hairys and couldn't get to him. I got out from under the fleabag finally but the Chief was gone and Yorik was just layin' there."

Argus muttered a prayer for strength as they followed Tristan's nose into the city. (He wondered how the man had such a keen sense of smell, but since no one else questioned it he went along for the ride.) He made sure he encompassed the entire party in his blessing, so that hopefully they would all find more strength than they normally had, the better to take on any more of those repulsive creatures if they encountered them.
