Isobel could still feel the sting of the whiskey in her throat and the acrid taste in her mouth. She opened her canteen and sipped some water, though it was of course rather warm. Still, it helped take the taste of alcohol out of her mouth.

She knew that she had an unreasonable dislike of it and supposed it was probably because her father's downfall had begun when he had started drinking heavily. She had watched a proud, strong, tall man shrink into a mere husk of himself.

But the whiskey seemed to be helping to dull the pain in her leg.

She chuckled as Ravin tried to explain how he came to be naked atop Laurel beside the lake. "Indeed... how very... fortunate that she was there to keep the sand from injuring anything." She could not help it... she had to laugh. Besides, the few sips of whiskey she had taken combined with her lack of sleep seemed to be making her slightly giddy. She glanced over at Ravin. She hadn't actually seen anything of his naked body... he had been too far away and laying down, after all. She idly wondered what he looked like. She shook her head. What sort of foolish thoughts are these? It is the whiskey. Nothing more.

"I'm really looking forward to investigating the ruins of Twilight city, but I hope the hell we can somehow manage to get a couple hours of sleep before a new crisis arises, don't you?" Ravin said rather wearily.

"Si, I hope so Señor Ravin, but considering our recent luck, I do not think I will hold my breath."

At that moment Tia approached and asked Ravin to go fetch the fish she had caught, which had been left on the bank of the lake. Isobel was surprised when Ravin returned with the fish. It was a miracle they had not been swept back into the water by the massive waves that had washed the shores when the earthquakes had struck.

Valhorek came over to her, fussing about her leg. "It is nothing, Doctór... just a scratch," she tried to tell him, but of course he was having none of it and set to work healing her. She watched with interest as he cleaned her wound and numbed the area... she sighed. These pantalones were brand new and already slashed! She would simply have to sew them up later. Valhorek stitched her leg up, taking great care with the sutures. He seemed to be slightly flushed... no doubt the heat was getting to him, since he had been very busy.

He looked up from his work as he finished. Her dark eyes met his and he seemed to hesitate as he told her “You’ll….be fine. Just stay off the leg for a while, or if necessary I can fashion a staff for you to lean on.” He handed her a bag of herbs. “Take this with tea, or hot water to insure good healing.”

She nodded, her hand touching his briefly as she took the medicine from him. "Gracias, Doctór... are you all right?" He nodded and moved on to treat Ravin. She had a sudden impulse to tell him to be sure to check all extremities thoroughly for wounds, but kept it to herself. She was feeling far too silly right now for her own good.

After Erlic prepared the fish she took a tentative bite (she had rarely had fish prepared in a manner that she liked). "This is excellent, Frio!" she said, and finished her entire plateful.

Barry was glad to hear that Corum was all right. But the next words out of his mouth made him almost wish the addle-cove had been knocked unconscious or something.

“You know what Barry? You need a little decoration on you. Like how about an earring? I think it would give you a little finesse, coolness, if you get my drift. What do you say? We’ve got some time to kill.”

"What do I look like, some kinda sissy? I saw what you guys did to Yorik. It was shameful!" He saw what seemed to be a hurt look cross Corum's face and felt a little guilty. The berk had only been trying to be nice. He sighed.

"Look, Chief... I appreciate the sentiment and all but let's face it... a bauble hangin' off the powers only know where on me isn't gonna make anyone think I'm anything more than just a floating skull. Besides," he added with characteristic humility, "I prefer to think that I'm strikingly handsome just the way I am, in a masculine, rugged, natural kinda way."

Argus spluttered as Valhorek poured the herbal remedy down his throat. He gasped, nearly choking. "Yer wha ay yew do'n feller? Try'n ter kill me?" he sputtered indignantly. He realized quickly that Val had only been trying to help and muttered, "Sorry 'bout dat... Ay'm a blind bit grumpy whun ay fairst wake up."

He sat up slowly, his head still pounding. "Argh yer wha bairst me?" he moaned, holding his head.

He looked around at the destruction that had been caused by whatever the hells that was that had happened. It was astonishing. And... what were those twisted lumps of flesh over there? "By de gods... doze ay a couple o' de 'orse people!" he said in shock.

Had the creatures from the other world emerged to cause this while they were distracted fighting the assassins? He looked over at the mirror. It was still covered in sand, so it couldn't have been them, could it? Probably the poor horse people had been struck by lightning. He realized he was lucky to be alive.

He felt sorry for the horse people who were grieving over their fallen comrades. He had an impulse to go try to comfort them, but he realized that they would probably only be more frustrated at not being able to understand him, which would probably upset them more. So he stayed where he was.

He turned to the man Ravin who was sitting nearby scaling some fish. The snippy woman was sitting next to him and she seemed to be wounded. The woman dressed like a harlot, he noticed for the first time. "Dat wuz a close one fe certain," he remarked to Ravin, his head still pounding. "E'yer now... why wuz thuz assassins sneak'n around e'yer intirupt'n a man's bath?"
