Once Valhorek had his fill of dinner Sheikh Daraba came out, and welcomed the group. Ravin was elected spokesman since he was closest to the Sheikh, and the man did his best to inform the Jann of their initial reasons for being out here. The Sheikh then explained how he was in a struggle for power, and how he needed a certain artifact to achieve that status. His explanation of working hand in hand sounded somewhat encouraging, especially since Valhorek was already aware that assassins were following them. Perhaps the inclusion of the Jann would help deter the assassins from any immediate action.

Once the Sheikh had left, Valhorek quickly followed the man, and begged his permission for a brief counsel. The Sheikh nodded, and Val explained how he was the healer for the group, and if possibly he could share, and exchange ideas with their own healer. The sheikh nodded his appreciation, and asked that Ardesmar escort Valhorek to the Jann’s healer.

Within a few moments, the lieutenant, and Val, entered an elegant looking tent where Ardesmar introduced him to Matina, their own healer. Like Safina, the Sheikh’s daughter, Matina was also quite stunning in her clothing, and also carried the long raven colored hair. The woman dismissed the lieutenant, and asked if he would appreciate a drink. Val smiled encouragingly, inquiring if she had any of the whiskey. She smiled and poured two glasses, as they toasted to a mutual friendship, albeit short.

For the next several hours the two exchanged information, techniques, and a multitude of other topics.

***************

“Don’t let Laurel hear you asking me about it. She doesn’t like what I was, you know. I don’t know what the hell’s wrong between you two, lately, but this sure as hell wouldn’t help simplify things!”

Erlic almost smiled at the elf’s remark about something being wrong between him, and Laurel. Ironically, he didn’t think anything was really wrong, with the exception of his method of communication with the druid woman. But that would have to be placed on hold temporarily. Right now, Erlic was more concerned with the activity occurring outside the borders of the Jann camp, and it was only a matter of time before the assassins presented themselves, in one way or another.

“I overheard you, and your sister speak of Shado,” Erlic began. “You are well aware that we are currently being followed by assassins, and I was wondering just exactly what it is a Shado can really do?”

Erlic realized the nature of assassins, and basically now he worked. He had better know for he was a member in good standing of many of the elite guilds that catered to his line of work. He had managed to make many acquaintances along the way, and gathered an extensive amount of information as well. His partnership with Turin Deathstalker was possibly the culmination of his career. Here was a guild master who allowed Erlic to be his ears in far away lands. Granted he had others in his guild that were just as loyal, but some reason the man found Erlic particularly interesting. So for this reason, anytime something of interest occurred, or a new device had been formulated, Turin made sure to alert Erlic to the news.

The assassin turned his attention back to Rowan. “Perhaps I’m intruding in an area I have no right,” he stated to the elf. “But I need to know the extent of your abilities in dealing with our current adversaries, especially any special abilities that you might possess.” Erlic wasn’t about to proclaim his trade to the elf, but was determined to get some information out of the man. “I’ve had some dealings with assassins in the past, and am a bit aware of their ways, so I’m willing to help, and possibly give my own guidance, if the two of us can formulate some type of plan.”

It was then that the Sheikh came out, and addressed the group. Erlic appreciated the fact that Ravin took matters under control by speaking with the man. He realized that his fellow thief had the capabilities of saying what needed to be said, and nothing more. For that, and many other reasons, Erlic trusted him emphatically; he was a good man to have around, and a good friend as well.

He was then informed that the Jann would be traveling along with their party. Perhaps this would bide them some extra time with the assassins. The only feasible method the assassins could possibly achieve their goal, without the loss of too many of their members, and without alerting everyone in camp, was to quietly sneak in during the cover of darkness. Then they could recapture their prisoner, and then quickly leave the area. He was sure that they would have preferred to leave a few slit throats behind, but seeing the numbers of the Jann, along with their own numbers, it would have to wait.

When the Sheikh finished speaking he turned back to Rowan. “Think on it before responding back to me,” Erlic finished. “I’d really appreciate your input on the matter.”

It was then that Ravin approached them, making a loud enough sound to inform them of his presence. "The druidess is about to help me spell out a few words but there are a few of this world that she is unfamiliar with so I was hoping you might give her a hand in teaching me."

Erlic nodded to Ravin stating he would join them shortly. The younger thief returned back to laurel, and Erlic returned his attention back to Rowan. “Let me know what you think,” he ended. He started off before stopping, and turning back to the elf. “And don’t worry about your sister, for I have no intention of letting her know of our discussion.” He smiled, and nodded at the elf before turning toward the direction of Laurel, and Ravin.

He was almost there when Corum came running, followed in mid-air by one Barry. Corum had decided to relate the matter to Erlic. The assassin thanked both parties before joining Ravin, and Laurel.

As soon as he was seated he simply smiled at both of them. “I don’t want either of you to look now,” he began, “but on the outer perimeter of the Jann’s camp, there’s an outgrowth of rock. Huddled behind them are a few of our adversaries. At the moment they’re merely observing us, and nothing more, so I don’t think any action is necessary at this moment.”

At least he hoped that no action was needed, but he would be on his guard. Anyone foolish enough to attempt an attack in broad daylight deserved to be killed. More than likely they would wait, and plan out their actions accordingly. Any professional assassin would work in this manner.
