One aspect I'm worried about, is the lack of mental health care available for our veterans. This debacle is generating huge numbers of vets with post-traumatic stress syndrome, for which they'll need thorough counseling, therapy and medication. the most recent update on Bush's lobbyist problems, (after Abramhoff, DeLay, Cunningham, Ney) is that Karl Rove's top aide had to resign last Friday. Her name is Susan Ralston and she used to be Jack Abramhoffs top aide. She was directly involved in the money laundering and funneling money to various corrupt people and groups. She left Abramhoff went to work in our White House, for Rove. Two other thoughts. First of all,thank you to you Raymond for posting this in it's entirety. Secondly,Bush et al use the argument that the persons being questioned by the CIA are not uniformed soldiers of a recognized country. However, if our CIA operatives were picked up in foreign countries they wouldn't be uniformed soldiers,either. But they need to be protected by the Geneva Convention as well. it is such an opportunity, to re-grow those neighborhoods and use our brains and best technology whilst doing it. We watched part of When the Levees Broke last night, and there was a segment showing some of our engineers going over to Holland to see how they have built their levees, and WOW! What a brilliant solution. Apparently, Louisiana does not receive their fair share of revenue from the oil that is mined off shore - in fact most of the profit goes to Texas!??? Louisiana state officials and spokemen said, in the movie, that if the state would be allowed to get their money from THEIR oil, the state could easily fund all the rebuilding and construction of effective levees. I have not heard US troops were even in Lebanon, which has the largest proportion of Christians of any Arab country. Both the Christian and Muslim populations are subdivided into many, many sects. All the the chaos and destruction going on in Lebanon, Iraq and all over the Middle East, much of it is deeply involved with religion - many, many religions and the sub-sects of those religions. It goes to show, for me anyway, how important it is to have a SEPARATION of church/religion and state, like we're supposed to have in this country. No. I think that Karl Rove reads the voting public like a cheap novel and hits all the right notes to appeal to them. It's sad and scary to me but it seems that the general public is not too savvy and unable to think for themselves.
