I got one of my birthday wishes last night. At about midnight it started raining and we got well over 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) of rain. Nevermind that it came along with about 2 hours of constant lightning with an extraordinary amount of cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. I unplugged a lot of my electronics (last time this happened it cost me well over $2500) and then the power went out. I went to bed at 1:30am but was still awake when the power came back on about 2am.

But this rain should help the corn with a last shot and certainly helps the 2nd crop soybeans we have on the back road fields.

So rain is about the sweetest thing I can imagine getting right now.

Evidently, the power outage or maybe a lightning strike has screwed over my HVAC system. I'm swimming in my own sweat right now. But I just got a call back from my HVAC guy and he's coming up. Either the system has a problem (which it shouldn't because he just tuned it up last month) or my thermostat is screwed up. My money is on the thermostat. Dang digital thing, I went to check it, tried to lower the temperature and the pad went blank. But now it is back and says the system is ok. SO, I don't know what is happening. Momentary glitch? Thankfully, the sky has been mostly cloudy today and the house hasn't gotten that warm.

I finally got the house cooled off. My HVAC guy thinks the thermostat is going kaput. I had to turn it down to 69*F to get it feeling right in here. But we think that is actually only 74*F.
