Subject: hepatitis c

I am currently trying to start a hepatitis c support group for all veterans with the disease from any branch and era served.
In dec 1978 while stationed with the 1st Bn 39th mechanized infantry 8th infantry division Baumholder Germany we were given a flu shot live vaccine by air gun and needle.
After the flu shot was done the unit had a hepatitis outbreak and was quarantined for a period of time.
I eneded up getting the flu the same day with a temp of 104.6 and was given a IV which was already used on someone else. I was patient number 52 and at least 30 others came in after me.
When I went to Charlie company to get the flu shot I wentr with roy, red, cagola and little rock and roy was the third guy in front of me.
I have made contact with roy and he told me he had hepatitis at the time he got the flu shot and they used a needle instead of airgun which stoped working.
The medics took the needle and put it in the veil with the liver flu and one after another gave us the shot with the same needle.
I have found 2 others besides myself from my company bravo who have hep c and 4 others from the unit in other companys.
The medics broke into the safe that contained the narcotics which were designated for war time and used needles to extract the narcotics and shared with each other and one medic died of drug overdose and was found to have the virus in his blood.
During this time hep c was known as non A and non B hepatitis since it was not discovered till 1989 and not tested for till 1992.
The support group for veterans to help each other with the disease and maybe help in time prove to the va like agent orange that veterans did get hep c through airgun innoculations.
I am aslo looking for Dwight attaway who was in bravo and a Vietnam vet who I last saw in ft McClellan Alabama.
I would love for others who were in the 39th during this time to contact me at arthurfryer2beking or my home phone 352-503-2569 and please leave a message since I am not home between 10am to 8pm and I will get back with you.
all veterans from the 39th infantry any company in the unit that have hep c and all others veterans who have it please contact me so we can get this support group going and help each other get service connection or at the very least the needed medical attention needed.
God bless to you all.
