Howdy gang ~ My DOC was alcohol...binge drinker. I never drank before or during work, but my absenteeism raised a few eyebrows. Eventually I ended up in the ICU after drinking and playing with sharp objects - bad combination. The medical social worker talked me into getting into the Diversion Program. She made it sound like it was an organization of nurses who were dedicated to helping their fellow nurses with addiction problems; rather than a group of whip-cracking sadists intent on making your life miserable. Nevertheless, I made it through the hellish process.

Today I have been sober for 12 years. I don't play with sharp objects anymore, either.
