Subject: Undermining Parental Authority in Front of the Child

What's the big deal? If he says nay, but it's okay with you, whatever it is (eat a sugar cereal, ride scooter with helmet but no elbow guards, play doh on the carpet), do you let the kid do it anyway under your supervision and let Dad do whatever he wants under his supervision? Or does it depend on what IT is? Is known disagreement in parental approach such a terrible thing?

What if you don't like the way he talks to her at the time? Do you yell at him in front of the child? Example, what if, in helping a child do a puzzle, child is obviously having a hard time, and Dad, assuming child is just being a PITA starts to talk to her in what Mom thinks is a humiliating way, condescending, and downright scary to a five-year old child, do you sit there silently to uphold the No Undermining Rule, do you say something. What?
