the military were paying for her trip. Towns do these sort of things for thier "hero's" and that is what they are viewing her as. Although I don't know if it is her home town doing it or not, I still think it is a nice gesture.

She isn't being rewarded for being a POW, she is being rewarded for surviving and it is also good press release for the newspapers involved.

I really don't know what the protocall is for the military...do they "heal and return" or do they discharge or what?
