Rescued POW To Be Given Maui Trip
West Virginia Soldier Recovers From Iraq Ambush

POSTED: 9:59 a.m. HST April 6, 2003
UPDATED: 10:29 a.m. HST April 6, 2003

WAILUKU, Hawaii -- Former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch has an all-expense-paid trip to Maui waiting for her and her family when she recovers from injuries.

The West Virginia soldier was rescued from an Iraqi hospital Tuesday.

The Maui News and its sister newspaper, the Parkersburg News and Sentinel in West Virginia are among the sponsors of Lynch's Hawaii trip.

The trip will be presented to the servicewoman when she returns home to Palestine, W.Va.

Lynch was reunited with her parents and siblings Sunday at a U.S. military hospital in Germany, where the 19-year-old supply clerk is recovering from serious wounds suffered when her unit was ambushed in Iraq.

Lynch is in stable condition with injuries to her head, spine, both her legs, her right arm, her right foot and ankle. Some of the wounds are from gunshots. She was rescued last week in a daring raid.

Okay, Hurray for Jessica Lynch. But a Hawaiian trip? I want a Hawaiian trip. I injured myself on training and nearly broke my ankle when I fell off a 10 foot rope. Granted I was not a POW. I am pleased that she was found alive.....but I have a hard time with all the "extra's" she is getting. She is a soldier that got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. For some reason she was spared from execution. But treat her medically and then get her back to duty!
Okay, rant over.
