Seriously though ... I think a small part of the reason I don't have IL problems is because they live in Connecticut adn I live in Arizona!

However, we never really had any problems when we lived closer either.

I don't think you're aunt/uncle's solution is far off. In order to have the support of your spouse, that spouse has to know what's going on and what it was that offended you, what the problem is etc. Its not tattling. Its informing. It would be a lot worse, IMO, for your uncle to just remain pissed at his MIL and your aunt not know what's going on. Or for him to make a big stink out of something that his wife doesn't even know about. And, by telling her before he makes a stink, she may be able to give him information that alleviates the problem without a stink.

Anyhoo .. thats my cheap two cents for today.
