Subject: Yeah, I do think it's a misuse of the word "hero."

Now, granted, everyone can choose his or own hero. But for me I don't think that because someone has cancer that it makes the person heroic. My mom died of breast cancer, and I don't think that made her a heroine. I think that she had no CHOICE but to endure it for a spell. She endured unimaginable pain, but I still don't see that as heroic, just unbearably sad.

Now, I can see expanding my definition of "hero" to include somebody who demonstrated some great character trait. So that might include a cancer victim if that was the case. And I guess that wouldn't require the person to do the heroic act on behalf of another person. Something to think about....
