That somehow crosses the line from courageous to cowardly for me. Cowering in fear - well, I don't think that the presence of fear indicates a lack of courage or bravery. Reaction to fear might be an inidication of it, and killing oneself to escape the fear isn't heroic to me.

I'm curious about something though. Have you ever heard parents reference the courage and bravery their cancer-infected child displays? Have you ever heard a parent of a child who is suffering (or who has actually died) from a terminal illness refer to that child as "their hero"? Based on your definition of being a hero (especially that it must include the betterment of someone else's life), do you think such parents are wrongly labelling their child "their hero"? I mean, don't you see how that sort of courage and bravery (that comes from facing an extremely difficult situation) can be accurately categorized as heroic?
