agreeing with you 100%. I live in a small, extremely zealous sport town and dh and I feel like fish out of water much of the time. Our older daughter no longer plays soccer; but both my boys (8.5 and 13) play travel soccer to the tune of 2 two hour practices a week. Trying to juggle homework, snacks, dinner, etc. between school bus drop off to practice time can be a real nightmare. Every coach we've had has assumed that we live for the sport...and I think there is a certain disregard to the impact on schoolwork AND sleep needs. Neither of my kids will be a pro athlete..so if schoolwork starts to suffer the sport will go first.

There is such a push around here to get your child into the action by around age four...it takes real strength of will to avoid the adult peer pressure.
