Subject: I am NOT a soccer mom

Okay my dd made a *comp* team for soccer. We've done recreational for years, but I didnt think she would make a comp team. Its ALREADY wearing on me big time. Right now they are having practices tues/thurs. Well tues night practics basically runs from 6-830p. But you can choose to go to a 6-715 session or a 715-830 session. So tonight I dropped her off about 7p. Came back at 825p. Coach is blah-blahing away. Then he says *Oh lets scrimmage for a bit! Parents? 5 minutes?" No, I didnt want to hang out for even ONE more minute, its 830pm and I am tired and dd is tired too. But who am I to dissent?! So.......NOW its 845p! And the coach and assistant are acting like they want to keep playing. They did finally quit, but grudgingly.

I was REALLY irritated. First of all, I expect a practice to run over here and there-but its already becoming a habit. Second of all, when I am there promptly to pick up my child at the time her practice is supposed to be finished, I expect the coach to have the time management skills to make it happen.

AND....its a SCHOOL night for most of these girls to boot! We homeschool so it isnt as much of an issue, but my dd is 11yo and still sleeps 10-11 hrs a night. She is usually asleep by 9p!

I just hate the attitude of these competitive teams, that we are supposed to totally dedicate ourselves to the sport. I am happy for my dd, I support what she is doing, but I am not going to treat soccer like its the holy grail. We are already going to give up a ton of our family time this summer, not to mention the horrendous COST of the d@mn sport.

I have a feeling the coach might say something to me (dd said I looked totally p.o'd, lol, hey my face is easy to read!). And I intend to be (nicely) honest. Heck, how would they feel if I was 15 minutes late to pick up dd all the time? Or if I made her 15 minutes late to a game?

Its going to be a lonnngggg summer. I am already totally maxed out stresswise (lets see, school finals, refinancing a property, sellling our personal home and having a new home built, marital troubles, family troubles......and people wonder why I want to run away.....)

*sigh*
