1. The prequels are very interesting, especially in the beginning. They provide a good history for anyone who is interested in Dune's back story. However, I would recommend them to be read ONLY by those who have already read all six classic Dune novels.

2. I will not call them "fan fiction", because I may wish to write my own Dune fan fiction and would not want to presume to raise my work to the same level as their's.

I still will not call them canon with the originals; but, if the new authors wish to have THEIR OWN Dune canon, with events similar, but not exactly the same, as the original, then that's fine.
