Just to add a little chaos to the mix, perhaps Alia's situation was affected by Jessica using the Fremen ritual rather than the BG ritual. In other words, the water of life acts differently than the spice. Isn't it true that the water of life was a secret kept by the Fremen? Only the Fremen could hold a worm, only the Fremen knew that there was a connection between the worms and the spice, and only they could produce the water of life. Bene Gesserit RevMos are created with an overdose of the spice (extract) alone. So perhaps something to do with the Water of Life helped to allow Alia access to these male memories or at least made her a special case.
Also, I know Norma Cenva used the spice to steer a ship so therefore women are capable, but I don't remember a single instance of a GuildsWOMAN. Is it possible that the spice affects men differently from women in this way? Why should men be able to take the spice as a gas in such large quantities that it mutates their bodies, but not as an extract swallowed? It suggests that there is something special about the way spice is ingested, so it follows that the Water of Life should act differently than just spice extract.
