The Teilaxu originally planned the first ghola, and their hold on the emperor, to be Chani, Paul's wife. It could well have been Paul who became the worm, Chani, the ghola to be by his side for thousands of years in ghola form.
The Duncans were chosen by the Teilaxu moreso than the emperor.- Neither Paul nor Leto would allow the bodies of thier beloved family or friends to fall into teilaxu hands..
