when i look at the universe as a whole, i see the circle and a cycle. these relationships exist from the micro to the macro level. i believe that most systems work in a cyclic type of order/chaos/order whatever. but things do seem to repeat themselves in one form or another, often despite attempts to alter them. if you look at the big picture you see the small picture and vice versa. dune gives us a great example of this in the cyclic nature of the regimes of muad'dib, and leto II, as well as the bene gesserit/honored matre dichotomy, the fall of machines in the butlerian age and the return to reliance on them by the chapterhouse era.not to mention the eco- cycles that are created by the presence of sandworms. the great circle.
