To all the naysayers who might dispute the fact that Frank had thinking Machines the threat to humanity's survival on the horizon, a fellow poter pointed out this passage in God Emperor of Dune which alludes to the machines...(perhaps descenedents of the OMnius Evermind probes sent out in the Butlerian Jihad)
Page 345 GEOD: Leto to Siona: "You are the Golden Path."
"'Without me there would have been by now no people anywhere, none whatsoever. And the path to that extinction was more hideous than your wildest imaginings.'" (Leto, pg. 345, GEOD, Siona's Test)
Page 348: Narrative of Siona's Spice vision..."The seeking machines would be there, the smell of blood and entrails, the cowering humans in there burrows aware only that they could not escape...while all the time mechanical movement approached, nearer and nearer and nearer...louder...louder!"
Page 349:"'They couldn't hide.' she whispered. Then loud: 'What have you done to me?'
Page 350: Siona:'But I saw another thing! You can't follow my tracks.' Leto: 'Which is why you must breed and preserve this.'
Not only is it thinking machines, but perhaps thinking machines with prescient or near prescient capabilities as well.
