Here is my opinion. Paul was the Kwisatz Haderach. This fact was stated more than once. He was the "great leap forward". The reason people are confused is because he was also "something more" the "fulcrum" as it were. The Kwisatz Haderach was a super-being nothing more. A tool to be used by the Bene Gesserit. But Paul was the super-bieng with a destiny that made him pivotal in events that would upset the status quo of the Universe.
Leto his son, had the same powers and more as Paul and indeed had as important a role to play. He was also a superbeing. But Paul was the first to display these awesome prescient powers.
