I told him to call me tonight. We'll see if he does. If he doesn't, I may e-mail them to check up on him, lol!
The dorms there are the pits. They have normal twin sized beds...old 1950's bunk beds that they've taken apart. The mattresses were gross- those cheap kiddie kinds. The dressers were cheap built-ins. I dunno. They'd have to charge next to nothing for me to pay for a room like that for a college kid! I didn't say anything to Liam, tho, and I'm sure in his mind that is now what all college dorms are like, lol!
Anyway, we got there first so he chose his bed...the one near the outlet so we could put his nightlight (a soccer ball) up. He was worried what the other kid would think...I told him not to even mention it and the kid wouldn't think a thing.
He's in a "suite"...two tiny rooms with a sliding door between them...with two other boys. The boy in his room was an odd duck. Like maybe borderline autism spectrum. His mother reminded me of the chick on the Sonic commercials. The boy was very obviously an only child...I could tell within two minutes!
Anyway, the parents dropped him and clothing. No phone, no money, no wallet or lanyard for his room key, no snacks, and not even an alarm clock! His mom made his bed and she and the stepdad left. It was the kid's first time at camp and the mom didn't even help him find the bathrooms and phone, or stay for orientation. Interesting. The only thing he brought was a stuffed animal. And he is 11.
Luckily, the boy in the other room seemed very normal. His dad hung out with him. Helped him find the bathroom and phone. Made sure he'd met the other boys. Chatted with me for quite awhile. Normal people, in other words, lol!
The boy in Liam's room...Alex...saw his stash of junk food and said, "Junk food? I never EAT junk food!" Both Liam and the other boy...Henry...looked at him as if he'd lost his head. I told Liam that was okay...he and Henry could enjoy the popcorn themselves if Alex didn't want any. Sheesh.
Liam was the only kid with an alarm...but Alex announced that he's an early riser so he'd be sure to be up by 6 and make sure he made enough noise to wake everyone. I wouldn't be surprised to go back Friday and find Liam and Henry in one room and Alex alone in the other, lol!
Interestingly, they keep the kids going from 9 to 9, but outside of those hours they're on their own! They are supposed to be in their rooms with the doors locked by 10. Since Liam was the only kid in his suite with an alarm clock- or a clock at all- I guess they'll be depending on him to watch the time for them.
The town is very cute. If I'd have known it was as large as it is, we would have stayed there. However, the only real motel on their website didn't answer me, and I didn't figure Teiguen would love a bed and breakfast. So, we missed out on lingonberry pancakes, lol!
We went swimming last night and again this morning. Teiguen thinks the free breakfast is the best...crazy kid. He would have eaten more, but breakfast was long over by the time we got out of the pool. He didn't realize it didn't last all day, I guess.
Well, I'm headed to the livingroom to collapse! LOL.
I need to call first thing tomorrow to get an appointment to get an allignment and new tires sometime these next three days. It sucked driving over 600 miles with the car constantly trying to turn right!
