狗年伊始，傳來一則有關「狗」的壞消息：日本Sony公司宣布，將在今年三月正式停產全線Aibo機械狗。
第一代的Aibo機械狗，於一九九九年面世，在當時絕對是國際大新聞。牠那過萬元的售價雖然偏高，但仍吸引了不少高科技追隨者捧場。這幾年來，Sony陸續推出了三、四代的新版Aibo，全球總銷量約十五萬頭。
但很明顯地，這個數字並未能為Sony帶來足夠收益。當Sony近年在其他主要電子產品市場，面臨要命的競爭時（如Walkman被美國Apple的i-Pod搶去不少風頭，平面電視又被韓國Samsung佔去不少市場），它不得不重整公司架構，去蕪存菁；在以大局為重的全面檢討之下，其開發並生產Aibo的「機械人部門」，終於要走上被關閉的命運。
這不單止宣告了新的Aibo不會再「出生」，而現存的十五萬頭Aibo亦會一步步走向「死亡」，因為當牠們的配件或零件老化時，Sony不會再提供保養或支援了。
這些年來，我一直都想買隻Aibo來「養」；如今看到這則消息，不但沒有打消我的念頭，反而令我更有購買的意欲！快要「絕種」的生物，我們不是都有義務去保護牠們嗎？誰人家中有想「棄養」的Aibo？我很樂意收養呢！
