最近，大家常會聽到或看到類似的新聞報道：「日前在某區發現的野鳥屍體，經化驗後證實帶有H5N1病毒……」
大家一聽（或一看）之下，就會直覺地以為是H5N1病毒殺死了那隻鳥。於是每日耳濡目染，就更加會以為所有被發現的鳥屍、死雀，都是死於H5N1，造成了禽流感山雨欲來的感覺。
可是，實情到底是怎樣？禽流感真的是元兇嗎？且聽在下舉個例子。
假設有天，一名男子屍體被發現倒在街上，那麼有關當局當然會驗屍，研究其死因啦！可是驗屍官甚麼都不驗，只驗了一項：看死者有否愛滋病毒。
結果，驗出來死者呈HIV陽性反應。我們能否就此斷定，死者的死因是愛滋病發作？當然不能。有可能是死者心臟病發，有可能是死者突然吸入了致命毒氣；總之，必須作出更全面的驗屍，才可以找出真正的死因。
同理，有鳥屍被發現後，大家只收到一個信息：鳥屍被驗出呈H5N1病毒陽性反應。但我們絕不能就此斷定，鳥隻是死於H5N1！
H5N1當然是有致命的危險性，但我們卻不能隨便冤枉H5N1呀！大家有沒有想過，如果H5N1真的咁兇狠，死鳥絕不止那麼少，應該滿街滿山滿地都是死鳥才是呀！
