在美國，只要你能寫出一部暢銷書，打入暢銷書榜幾星期，在出版界引起話題，基本上你這位「暢銷書作家」已可一世無憂。
數目龐大的版稅收入自然不在話下，其他文字的譯本、不同國家的版本亦會令你財源滾滾來，若然是小說又可以出售電影、電視版權，之後你亦可以四處演講、簽名，美其名與讀者交流其實是賺多點外快。
有甚麼比這件事更好？自然是出版多一部暢銷書啦！
電影《達文西密碼》上映前夕，如果你現在才買小說版來看，難免會被人覺得Out。告訴你，現在應該看《達文西密碼》的「前傳」小說《天使與魔鬼》。
其實，作者丹布朗早於二○○○年已出版了《天使與魔鬼》，然而此書未有掀起如《達文西密碼》般的熱潮。到二○○三年《達文西》出版，他才正式打進了「暢銷書作家」的行列，於是乎《天使》變成了「前傳」，得以再版翻身，更成為另一本暢銷書。
《天使》之前從未出版過中譯本。在《達文西》熱後，去年內地率先推出了《天使》的簡體字版，但我個人比較愛看直行的中文字，故一直等台灣的繁體版。
最近逛書店，終於看到台灣「時報出版」的《天使與魔鬼》！（未完待續）
