雞年第一稿，祝大家：金雞獨立，雞肥屋潤！
我這一代城市人，一生人第一次接觸雞，很不幸地，是一隻機械雞。那是當年很流行的一種發條玩具：小雞啄米。上鏈之後，黃色鐵皮的小雞就會在地上邊跳邊啄，而當時作為三歲細路仔的我，自然玩得不亦樂乎。大個些少，開始跟母親到街市買菜，才有機會接觸到活雞。
那時的老人家，很喜歡把母雞買回來養牠一陣子，養肥了才自行宰殺，是故間唔中會有母雞在家中出現，成為臨時寵物。當年一集《小時候》，正是「小孩與雞」的煽情版：祖母買了活雞回家，王書麒和路家敏視之為寵物，感情萌生；豈料一天放學回來，發覺母雞失蹤，牠竟成為了飯桌上的白切雞，兩小孩哭到死去活來，打死不肯吃雞，更嬲了祖母一星期！
現在談起該集《小時候》，人人津津樂道。現實中，小時候的我應該沒有為母雞死了而哭過，反而有理冇理，照樣吃得津津有味。
諷刺的是，這個雞年之後，大家接觸到活雞的機會，會愈來愈少。街市中只會見到宰好的雞，在家中養雞更近乎不可能；以後的小孩想見雞，可能要去動物園了！
