我不敢自稱為「作家」。「家」這個字，有「專家」、「自成一家」之意。自覺只是一位「作者」而已，並未到「家」。
然而因為工作的緣故，經常會接觸到一些真正的作家。我發現一個很有趣的現象：作家都喜歡隱居。
隱居的意思，當然不是一個人住在孤島、深山那種，而是遠離市中心，住在一些較僻遠的地帶。由於私隱的問題，恕我不能公開列名舉例，只能不記名聊一聊。
最近相約一位女作家，傾談合作事宜。由於大家都忙，時間難約，地點也難就，於是我在電郵中問她：「你住在哪區？不如在你家附近找一個地方面談。」
結果她在電郵中回覆道：「東涌……我在隱居。」我失笑。在將軍澳上班的我，若然要去東涌，真的是由東北走去西南了！我只好答道：「那麼我們就約在迪士尼吧！」
另一位女作家，我最近頭一回冒昧致電給她，她卻說在船上，電話收得不清楚。哦，原來又是離島一族，住在大與山的。據我所知，住在此島的作家有不少……
回心一想，要我住東涌、大與山，實在不可能！我絕對是個屬於鬧市的人；這作家的「家」，我受不了。
