《電車男》的故事，最初於網上留言板流傳，後來網上留言被結集成書，再變成小說、漫畫，還被拍成劇集、電影（近日在港上映），已演化為一個現象了。
但無論這個故事如何演化，它仍然萬變不離其宗地，源於一次電車上的性騷擾事件：一位醉酒阿伯在電車（等同香港的地鐵、九鐵）車廂中大吵大鬧，騷擾了好些乘客之後，來到一位 OL 面前大放闕詞，還有所動作…… 一向怕事的主角（後來被網友稱為「電車男」）在車廂中目睹一切，忽然「勇」字上身，上前阻止阿伯的行為；「救美」的他自然成了「英雄」，引發出以後的愛情故事。
但值得留意的是，日本人顯然對這種車廂騷擾見怪不怪，只見其他乘客對醉酒阿伯的行為都只是敢怒而不敢言，實行啞忍。一位在日本生活的女性朋友也告訴我，她經常都在電車中被人「揩油」，但就算她出言責罵，車中其他乘客都不予理會，視若無睹。
我相信，如果香港的地鐵車廂內有人醉酒鬧事，一眾師奶晨早就會出手出口，就算是 OL 也一樣會反擊！是故，香港的「電車男」沒有出場的機會，無法逞英雄。
