十多年前，擁有手機是一種身份象徵。當年的手機售價動輒過萬，通話分鐘也「分秒必金」，能負擔的人往往非富則貴（或至少是公司高層，可以出公數也），因此手機才會有「大哥大」的俗稱。
時至今日，手機售價已大幅下降至一千數百，而區區幾十元月費也可以打足一千分鐘，於是乎擁有手機已不算甚麼身份象徵；上至退了休的公公婆婆，下至未懂賺錢的小學生，都可以人手一機，毫不出奇。
然而，有一種新的身份象徵卻在近年出現了，就是：同時擁有兩部手機、兩個號碼！
甚麼人需要同時使用兩部手機、兩個號碼？我認識一位專門採訪黑白兩道新聞的雜誌主管，就是一例。他的A手機，是公開給大家的；B手機，則是秘密手機，只供其所謂「線人」來電。不過我有時懷疑，他還有C手機。
同時用兩部手機的人，予人一種日理萬機、城中忙人的感覺，亦有一種引人入勝的神秘感──無論其「第二手機」的背後，是一個秘密組織、秘密情人，抑或只是「秘撈」，這神秘感已足以成為一種新的身份象徵！（註：本文寫於在下考慮選購「第二手機」之期間。）
