經濟不好，失業率高，就業市場競爭劇烈，連帶大廈看更這個行業，也發生了巨大的變化。
以往大廈看更被稱為「阿伯」，因為當時的確只有阿伯才會當看更，哪會有壯年肯做？他們一做，就做上十幾廿年，彷彿與該幢大廈簽了死約咁滯。「阿伯」睇住我出世、睇住我入學、睇住我升中、睇住我帶女仔返屋企，如果夆鱆攭R，仲分分鐘睇埋我結婚、睇埋我個仔出世……
可是，環觀我現居屋宅的看更，近幾年已極度年輕化，全部變為三、四十歲的員工，五、六十歲的阿伯全部被逼提早退休。
但就算你不超齡，也不代表你做得長；因為人浮於事，只要你在工作上稍有差池，或不幸被住客投訴，管理公司就會乘機換人，絕不手軟。有時，我連新來看更的面孔都未記熟、囥m乜都未知，就發覺又換了人。
一年前，我樓下那三十來歲的看更，逢人必搭訕，與每一位住客都稔熟極之好傾；結果被炒，原因不明。半年前，我樓下那五十歲的看更，警覺性超高，逢陌生人必問長問短問到你煩；結果被炒，原因不明。
他們沒有失職，只能怨道：看更這一行業已非鐵飯碗了。
