依據約定的習俗，社會上每年都會有數次大規模的財富轉移；聖誕，就是其中一次。
所謂「聖誕禮物」，就是這種財富轉移。不過請放心，財富轉移之後，其實貧富的情況不會有大改變，有錢的人依然有錢，貧窮的人繼續貧窮，只不過在轉移的過程中，大家都得到了一點快樂。
假設在一個社區中，所有成員總共花了一百萬元在聖誕禮物上，我大膽估計，當中大約有七成以上（即總值七十萬）的禮物，都是一些「唔等使」的東西；而這七十萬之中，又有七成以上（即約四十九萬）的禮物，會在兩三年內成為廢物。
但無論如何，這一社區在聖誕期間產生了一百萬的消費額。結果，誰成為了最大的得益者？當然不是收禮物的人，而是製造禮物商品的商人。
所以我一向提倡，最好的聖誕禮物絕不是去商店買得到的那些，而是一些出人意表的心意之作。例如為另一半手造一個蛋糕、手繪一張賀卡，甚至手寫（是手寫，不是 E-mail、SMS）一封信、一篇文、一首詩……寫詩咁老套？絕不老套。何況聖誕節本身就有二千年咁老，就算老套一些又有乜所謂？
