現在的辦公室中，再也沒有打字機了。取而代之的，是人人桌上皆幾乎有一部的電腦。
提起打字機，我總想到唸大學的歲月。那年代家用電腦才剛剛開始普及化，唯宿舍中有電腦的同學十中只一二矣，故打字機仍然是主流。每到學期末交論文的季節，我都要四出張羅，問同學借打字機。
好彩的話，可以借到一部比較先進的電子打字機，不但有輕觸式的鍵盤，最大好處是有改錯弁遄F打錯字的話，只消按一個鍵，就可自動將之塗白。
退而求其次，有時只能借到舊式的全手動打字機。那麼，該篇論文一定是數個難捱的夜晚；難捱的不止是打到手指痛的我，也包括要忍受整夜打字機聲而不能入眠的室友！
不過，個人感覺打字機的聲音是十分好聽的。那是一種「努力寫作」的聲音，只要聽到隔壁有打字機聲傳來，就可以肯定有人在努力寫作，不論是寫論文、寫報告抑或寫情書。
現在，打字機聲已成為了絕響。電腦鍵盤聲不能取替之，因為鍵盤聲不一定是「努力寫作」，可能只是在努力打機、努力玩 ICQ……（《絕種東西系列》之四）
