甚麼是「回帶機」？甚麼叫做「回帶」？
要了解這個問題，我們先要回到錄影機大盛的那個年代，大約是十五年前吧。當時大盛的不止是錄影機，連帶錄影帶租賃的店子，也其門如市，十步一間。
因為，那時最流行的娛樂，就是租錄影帶回家看。要知道，那是「Pre-卡啦 OK 年代」，是「Pre-上網年代」，未有 VCD、DVD 而只有極奢華的 LD；故錄影帶的普及程度，可想而知。
其時，租帶店有一個規矩，是顧客還帶時必須把帶子（不是海產）倒回到最開頭，是為「回帶」。可是，精明的消費者又發覺，如果長期用家中的錄影機來回帶，是十分「傷機」的，錄影機內的摩打因損耗過多，壽命自然減短。
於是市面上出現了專用的「回帶機」，沒有甚麼高科技，純粹出賣勞力，大約賣二三百元。以此代價來保護價值三數千元的錄影機，大家都覺值得，所以幾乎家家戶戶都有一部回帶機，伴在錄影機的左右。
回帶機今日已然「絕種」，因為，就連錄影機本身也在瀕危邊緣了！（《絕種東西系列》之八）
