對香港人來說，過年大過天，家中不能沒有年花；相對而言，聖誕樹的地位則肯定小得多。以在下為例，由細到大家中買過幾多次聖誕樹，半隻手可以數晒。
平生家中第一次出現聖誕樹，居然是我中二那年。之前十幾年，年年央求父母買聖誕樹，均以「屋企太細」的理由被拒；那麼為何這年會爆冷？很簡單，因為不是買給我的。
事緣該年，兩位居於紐約的小表弟來港過節，住我家中，成為貴賓兼寵兒。當時他們年約四至七歲，滿口英文（名副其實的ABC），相當乖巧，深受我父母疼愛，自然百般遷就；適逢聖誕佳節，為迎合他們「鬼仔」過節的口味，因而家中首度出現聖誕樹，認真史無前例，仲要係巨型座地嗰隻，人咁高！（以前又話屋企太細簫籪佩{……）
雖然不是我的樹，卻是由我負責去買的。可憐的我，走去屋企附近的文具店，正在選樹買燈之際，忽見掌櫃的女孩，怎地熟口熟面；睇真啲，原來是我同班同學、老闆個女！她邊收錢，邊陰陰嘴笑……翌日，我踢着拖鞋去買聖誕樹的事，自然傳遍校園。
這就是我家第一棵聖誕樹的故事。樹是膠樹，卻只用了一年，就不知去向了。
