LOL! He's got you well-trained. "If I make noise, she's going to let me out!" Don't do it. Don't acknowledge him in any way when he's making noise - don't even look over at him, just pretend he doesn't exist. "Puppy? What puppy? There's a puppy here making noise? I don't hear any puppy!" The instant he stops barking, even if it's just long enough to take a breath, give him a huge smile and an enthusiastic "good boy!" sign, and run to the crate to let him out. If he starts barking again before you can get there to let him out, make a "oh well, too bad" face and shrug your shoulders as you turn and walk away.

It usually takes about a week for them to figure out that they don't get to come out when they're barking. And a warning - it'll get worse before it gets better. "She let me out before when I barked, why isn't it working now? Maybe if I bark louder/longer/more piteously?" But if you can stick it out for a week or so, you'll be well on the way to having a dog that's quiet when crated.
