It really depends on the dog. It might work with a Dal, but I wouldn't try it with a breed that's more motivated to leave the yard and less sensitive to stimulation. I wouldn't be comfortable with an e-fence for a beagle, for example, or a high-drive English Setter. They'd blast right through the fence to follow their noses.

The other thing is that an e-fence will keep resident dogs in, but it doesn't protect them from other dogs (or other animals) entering the yard.

My personal preference is a physical fence, whenever possible.
