As always, Otter's eloquence captures so much of what I suspect we are all feeling.

Heard yesterday from a friend who works for the secret service (normally in Seattle) - she's been called south so she can go to Ala/La/Miss and prep the local folks for these royal visitations "W" is making to the stricken area. Each of these little visits costs countless hours of local people's time to prepare, have him and his entourage there, and get them out of the way. It is a huge waste of time, money and desperately scarce transportation and other resources. But he's gotta been seen shedding crocodile tears and embracing the victimes. ...just a little maddening cherry on top of the miseries and horror...

This has exposed some extremely ugly things about life here in the USofA. In living miserably poor and otherwise disadvantaged color (and yes, read that as a double-entrendre). On EVERYONE'S television sets around the world. Here's hoping some eyes (those previously voting Republican for starts) get opened about what Bush's priorities really are.
