Subject: I had lots of trouble with multiplication too. I only have one little trick (m)
In reply to: MOM9399 's message, "Help! Need good ideas for helping my third grader learn her multiplication facts!!!!" on 11:47:56 04/03/03 Thu

that helped me with the 9's times table. Hopefully I will explain this so it makes some sense.

Put both hands in front of you, palms down. Now assign each finger a number, going left to right. So the left pinky finger is 1, left ring finger, 2... Left thumb, 5. Right thumb 6...Right ring finger 9, right pinky 10.

Now given the problem, 9x6, hide the 6th finger(the right thumb. To the left of the right thumb is 5 fingers and to the right is 4 fingers. Put those two numbers together and it is 54. Of course this only works up to 9x10.

As I mentioned I had a horrible time with multiplication too, but at least this trick helped me with the 9's
