Go rowing in Central Park it's a real blast! I found the zoo a bit depressing, but not sure what kiddies would think. Empire State has excellent views, as long as you don't mind heights. We also took a trip out to Liberty Island, and walked over Brooklyn bridge - not sure your kids would appreciate that last one :-)

Walking around Central Park was really nice, I didn't how big it is and how much there was to explore. What about skating there too?
