Subject: Here's why I do not like hybrids
In reply to: -S. 's message, "I wish the Xterra had one of these in the line-up." on 13:51:35 06/11/08 Wed

1. Very expensive. True they are making them more affordable, but still quite expensive at inception.
2. They do not save the earth. Recycling and dealing with the waste the batteries make is a pain.
3. Having a ton of batteries in a vehicle sucks when you are in a bad crash. Hybrid crash becomes haz-mat situation. Leaking acid, etc. wonderful.
4. Co$$$$t of replacing those batteries when the vehicle is 4 to 5 years old. Anyone checked into that? Whoa!!!
5. Poor power for what I do. Towing, 4wd, etc.....I use my SUV for the "S". I am always pulling a boat, hauling a trailer, or in 4wd- or in combinations thereof.
6. They really do not save THAT much fuel. I mean look at it over a 12 month period, what your average fuel savings will be. My VW Passat gets average of 24 in the city and 30+ on the highway. With a 4 cylinder turbo, and oh yeah....ONE battery.

Sorry to rant, but I am not even close to sold on the hybrid thing.
