"Maybe you should send this one in to CarTalk on National Public Radio?" --- But where should I send it if I want a 'real' answer..? Click & Clack could sort out my marriage (they'd love the 'topless Xterra' ordeal) -- but I bet this one might really stump them! Does Nissan have a site that would except such a question..? I've prettymuch given up on it - I'll just buy starters ~

...I've a vague memory of someone suggesting that the clutch must be pushed in for the ignition to get power... that actually makes sense to me. When you turn on the 'key' you've got the clutch pressed -- when you're roll-starting it the clutch is obvious out ... so if there some kind of idiot-switch keeping it from starting while in gear..? If that switch could be 'bypassed'... Any ideas?

--- Dang. Just tried to start it in neutral, with the clutch out - no go. Tried the Toyota next door - same thing. Guess it makes sense not to allow them to start without the clutch pressed, but why will the Toy roll-start and not the X?
