The area you ask about was once the site of a fresh water well, owned by abertillery district water board now welsh water, the row of cottages were built by powell duffryn steam co who also mined the level below this site, they actually mined into the well area which stopped the flow and now runs down between gelli grug lane and duffryn road and is the cause of the pollution of this stream, the cottages were demolished many years ago the site is now owned by blaenau gwent county council except for the well area and access road which is still owned by the water authority, there has been a recent dispute over the ownership of this road which is still on going.
